How to choose a carp fishing hook
You don't know how to choose the hook to be right for your catch? Read the next few lines, this is the guide to choose the I love Carp Fishing!
Frames, and more particularly terminals, are among the topics most discussed among carp anglers. Of the rest, it is not difficult to understand why: from what we attack at the end of the line depends on the result of our catch.
And the love, in this sense, is the most important element because it is the accessory that allows us to “make our own” the prey: if the hook breaks, why is undersized, or if we mistake the relationship between this and the bait, the result is the so-called “coat”.
We will try to dissect the argument, starting from the presentation of the elements that “describe” a hook, so that the newcomer can purchase the product knowing all the features on the market, and then describe how to choose the hook according to the bait and, finally, to make practical examples in which many of the fishermen are able to recognize.
THE FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS
In general, to describe a I love to you use some points of reference which, compared to, allow us to distinguish one model from another. These are:
- Eye: is the “high part”, that is, the point which is the knot for joining the line to the hook;
- The stem (or back): in English, “shank”, is the stretch that goes from the eyelet at the beginning of the sagging;
- The curveis that which gives the form true to the love, or the “fold” of the metal;
- Buckle: small “whisker” of metal that allows the hook to set in the mouth of the prey. Some of the models I love are “barbless”, that is without a tongue;
- The throatis the area that is formed if we draw a hypothetical line in a straight line between the tip and the back of the hook;
- Thread: is the thickness of the metal which is made with love;
- Section: is the shape of the metal wire which is made with love;
- Color: the hooks on carp fishing in general, they are not “naked” but are coated with special coatings that make them opaque. And also the color can change to increase the camouflage effect on the seabed;
We analyze, now, one by one, the elements, and the variations of them that are on the market.
The first hooks carp fishing had the eyelet in line with the back of the hook, and were called “eye straight”. The evolution of the technique over the years and some specific needs have led to three well-defined categories.
- I love eyelet straight: a “classic” that never sets, with the flagship in perfect line with the back. For those who start is the love ideal, because it allows us to do everything from rig simple to the more complex ones (in which we can change the shape of the hook with the tubes of silicone and heat shrink tubing). The hooks-to-eye straight can present different forms, depending on the length of the back and to the curve;
- I love eye facing the inside: they are among the most used because the loop is bent toward the tip facilitates the rotation of the tip down when the fish sucks in the bait. The models differ in the degree of the fold, ranging usually from 5 degrees up to a maximum of 15;
- I love eye turned towards the outside: they are used only in special conditions, that is, when you are terminal in fluorocarbon or when you want to make the chod rig. In fact, from the point of view of the bite, the hook-to-eye facing the outside shall be effective only if it is “helped” by a terminal hard.
Also in this case, we can simplify the explanation by using three categories:
- Short shank: between the tip and the eye space is very little. The models from carp fishing with this type of back are used only to build rig specific;
- Stem medium: the most commonly used because they are more versatile. You can use either to end with the hair rig hard to the end with a hair rig is mounted on a ring sliding;
- Long stem: in English, the “long shank”; they are very fond of details that have the value of “turn” very quickly as soon as the fish sucks in the bait, but have defect, the weakness in the seal during the fight.
Difficult to categorize all the types of curve available in the market. The curve of the hook is in close relation to the shank and the throat: in fact, it is thanks to the curve if the amo has a certain “shape”.
For example, a tight bend is always related to a long shank , and a gorge, not very deep (the so-called love “long shank” which we described a few lines ago), while a curve wide has more to do with ami with short shank and deep throat.
Small note: in the market there are you love from the curve, “square”, used in those situations in which the speed of rotation and grip in the mouth of the fish must be absolute.
Decisive, because this is what we are doing, “incannare” the fish. Whereas, we need to check it before each launch, in commerce we find love tips are very different.
There are love straight tip, which are the most popular “all purpose”, and ami, with tip bent towards the inside, usually combined with a stem of medium and one loop facing toward the interior.
With regard to the section, also in this case there are differences: if you look at the tip of the hook profile, we can realize that not all are perfectly round, but a few have flat section and the other a knife-edge, with a small ledge which makes it even more “deadly” penetration.
More roughly, the better the grip in the fish's mouth. But, at the same time, a buckle big reduces the penetrating power of the hook.
In a technique in which fish “bite” is essential for the love to penetrate as quickly as possible. That is why most of the hooks carp fishing has a buckle small, or even micro (MB – micro barb).
The ami barbless does not have the buckle and, in some fishing spots for a fee, are becoming mandatory because they do less damage to the fish's mouth and, especially, in the case of the stranding of the prey in the obstacles, this can release much more easily.
If we use hooks without barbs the secret is only one: in combat, maintaining constant traction of the wire, the via ferrata to the guadinatura.
Closely related to the stem, and the shape is the throat. There are love wide throat, that are chosen by the carp anglers who want a I love that face outlet “immediately” in the mouth of the fish, and love the narrow gorge, that, with respect to the first, are a bit more solid.
The parity of the wire of the hook, the more the throat is wide, the more the love is weak, especially if, to penetrate into the mouth of the fish, is just the tip.
It creates a strong lever that you download right in between the tip and the curve of the hook, and this can lead to breakage of the hook. However, I love to deep throat and the well-planted in the mouth of the fish is practically “inslamabile”...
It is an aspect of the not-too-regarded in the carp fishing, then we'll talk a little. Suffice it to say that the hooks may have a round section or a square: it all depends on the “shape” of metal bent to create the hook. From the point of view of effectiveness, there are difference sensitive between a hook wire round a hook in the wire squared, despite the fact that there are carp anglers who fish exclusively with the seconds.
It has become very important in recent years. If, once, the carp fishing was done with hooks, “normal”, or of polished metal, today it is not so. 90 percent of ami in the trade is “coated” or covered with matt varnishes that eliminate the reflections of light that slams against the metal.
This helps to make it even more camouflaged on the sea bottom, the hook, especially when we talk about shallow depth and clear water.
Some models of love do not stop the treatment opacifying: the paint used has shades tending to grey, to green or brown to camouflage themselves even better on the bottom.
These features are the “extreme” that affect most carp anglers busy with fish is very difficult.
Is the index that tells us how powerful a love. The hooks to the big wire are just... big, or made with a metal of a greater diameter to withstand considerable effort.
The love to thin wire are made for particular uses, or the fishing of specimens very suspicious that they swallow the bait with the decision.
The love to the big wire have as advantage the fact of guarantee leakproof even when we have to force quite the fish to pull it out by the obstacles. However, have the disadvantage of the tip, which is obviously less sharp; penetration, which requires the weights are heavier to go to a good end; of the weight: being larger, are heavier, and this can go on affect at the time of the bite.
A hook with a thin thread “pricks” better, penetrates faster, but has, by his, the disadvantage of not having an estate exceptional to extreme efforts.
Most of the hooks carp fishing in commerce, however, is made to withstand strong traction.
We recommend, to those who begin, to use ami to the big wire only if our fish are held in large waters, with fishing lines dropped from the boat, or if we need to quickly remove the fish from the submerged obstacles.
THE RATIO OF HOOK-BAIT
In addition to the situations of fishing and the type of frame, there is an element that is the decisive, most of the first two, in the choice of the type of love and its dimensions.
In choosing the measure of love, in fact, can not leave from the relationship between the hook, that has to sting, and the bait, which must entice the fish to eat.
Esemplifichiamo all with a table:
Bait <10 mm – I Love 6-8
Bait between 12-16 mm – Love 6-4
Bait 18-22 millimeters – Love 4-2
Bait >22 mm – Love 2-1/0
Because the bait and the size of the hook are important?
The reason is called “shadow effect”, and it is the one situation in which the bait is too big, and with its mass prevents the I love to go to when the carp sucks in the bait.
Think of a bait by 24 millimeters, which is considered to be “great”, with a hook of 6 (small): how can a love so tiny, go into the mouth of the carp if the mass of the bait in motion the “covers”? That's why, then, choose the right size of the hook in relation to the bait is important.
And this is especially true when we fish with the bait, and that bait with a certain “mass”, compared to grains that, in general, create triggers smaller.
Of course, we are also aware of the weight: using a love number 2 with a ball from 12 mm is not wrong, on the contrary, there are situations, such as fishing close to obstacles, in which a hook of this type is “mandatory”.
However, keep in mind that a I love number 2 it is very heavy, and this, at the time of intake of the bait, it can turn into a movement unnatural to the start, then in an element of alarm to the fish in the pasture.
“Peach, especially, in the cave is not very pressed, I'm starting now to get familiar with the carp fishing” – Choose a hook to shank the middle, with straight tip, throat, medium-large and eye linear or just facing the inside. The size varies based on the bait and the type of prey, as well as the environment. With a love of this type you can realize without a node, i.e. the junction base of carp fishing, and all of its complex variants.
“The peach in the cave very pressed and difficult, where there are a few departures” – The watchword is: everything to the minimum. Therefore, also the size of the hook (and bait): in these cases, a hook at the wire end, light, coated, and very pointed is what we need. The carp taken too often, in fact, are accustomed to eat gently. A love light enters more quickly into the fish's mouth and, being flush with the end, has a “bites” better.
“My environment is the big lake, I always go to hunt for big carp” – the Big lake, the same great love. It is not always like that... but almost. In the waters extensive, it is a type of carp fishing much more “hard”, and we use weights heavy, from 160 grams and up. Ballasts are too big combined with ami's small and flush with the end result almost always in slamate (a hook to thread the end of the “cut”, most of the tissues of the mouth compared to the one I love to the big wire). The advice is not to go for the subtle, choosing love in the big wire, solid and powerful.
“I fish almost exclusively in the river, even in the middle of current” – As in the previous case, serve, love thick thread, and from the battle. Beyond the presence of obstacles in the river are much more widespread than in fresh water, in the choice counts as much the power of the carp, which is much greater than that of the “cousins” of standing water. A river fish swims all the day round in the current and is therefore very muscular. In addition, once hooked, will try to take advantage of the current slamarsi, and then develop more traction on the hook. The choice has also the form: nothing ami galla throat that is too wide or too narrow, too prone to deformation.
